11 Creation from Nothing?

While in a derivative or non-primordial sense, generation and creation are two distinct acts, in a primary sense they coincide. Thus does Aquinas write:

For in generation, what is generated receives the nature of the generator, which is of perfection; yet in creation the creator does not mutate, though the created does not receive the nature of the creating agent. It is thus said that the Son is at once created and generated, since from creation is received the immutability of the father and from generation the unity of nature in both Father and Son.1
